Concern over Bill C 51.
On November 5th, Rev. Joan read a letter from our MP Jamie Schmale expressing his concern about Clause 14 which proposes to remove section 176 from the Criminal Code. This is a section which protects the right to hold religious services. The letter was distributed in the services on November 5th in the parish. We are encouraged to inform ourselves about this proposal and to write to:
The Honorable Judy Wilson-Raybould,
Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Canada
284 Wellington Street
Ottawa, ON KiA 0H8
Your letter to the Minister of Justice should express your concern about the proposal to remove section 176 from the Criminal Code. In our pluralistic society we are experiencing more opposition to religious observances – Jewish and Muslim as well as Christian. Section 176 is likely to be needed more in the future than it has in the past.
Please copy your letter to Jamie Schmale firstname.lastname@example.org.
